This
semi-desert area of Shekhawati is situated in the north eastern part of
Rajasthan, India. The term Shekhawati means the land of Shekhas, deriving
its name from Rao Shekha the founder of this region. The town is famous
for its amazingly painted havelis, constructed between 1750 & 1930,
and so known as the "the open-air art gallery" of Rajasthan.
The colourfully painted havelis display a unique architectural style that
attracts tourists from all over India and world. This region of Rajasthan
comprises of two modern districts of Sikar & Jhunjhunu.
Attractions in Bikaner
» Sikar : This is one of the districts of Shekhawati
founded in the late 17th century. The forts, havelis and its temples of
Gopinath, Raghunath and Madan Mohan are some worth visiting places. The
Jubilee Hall, Madho Niwas Kothi, Biwani Haveli, the Jain temple and a large
market are some other places of interest.

Mandawa : This is a beautiful town located in the heart of Shekhawati
region. This place is known for its forts, palaces & havelis like Chokhani,
Ladia, Saraf havelis which are the splendid example of art & architecture.
The Castle of Mandawa, now a heritage hotel has some beautiful frescoes.
» Nawalgarh : There are a number of forts & havelis
like the Bala Qila, Aath Haveli complex, Bhagton Ki Haveli, Anandi Lal Poddar
Haveli, Khedwal Bhavan where one can find some of the finest frescoes. Also
one can see few old temples which are worth visiting.
» Jhunjhunu : This was founded by the Kaimkhani Nawabs
in the 15th century and later came under the control of Rajput ruler in
the mid 18th century. Khetri Mahal, the Modi Haveli, the Kaniram Narsinghdas
Tiberwala Haveli and the Bihariji Temple are some of the important tourist
attractions of this area.
» Mukundgarh : This is a small village popular for
its handicraft markets and some havelis built in 1859 with good paintings.
Saras Baug is a popular place in Pune, you can visit the sprawling green
lawns and the famous Ganesh Temple constructed by Madhavrao Peshwa.

which is linked with major cities by regular flights.

other parts of India by an excellent railway network.
